Michael Abrahams, a partner in the New York City office of Finsbury, is currently based in Amsterdam serving as the interim head of Global Communications for Royal Ahold N.V., one of the world’s largest food retailers. In this role, Michael oversees the company’s internal and external communications, investor relations and public affairs functions across Europe and the United States. He is also helping to manage communications for Ahold’s proposed US$30 billion merger with Brussels-based Delhaize Group. At Finsbury, Michael works with senior executives at companies across a range of industries on complicated reputation, litigation, financial and workplace issues. He has deep experience with major corporate crises in the U.S., Europe, Middle East and Asia as well as a range of high-profile special situations, including mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcies, union and activist campaigns, and CEO transitions. His work also includes an extensive focus on leadership strategy, social responsibility, stakeholder engagement, internal cultural change and outreach across digital, social and mobile platforms. In addition, he works closely with senior executives, board members and staff to help structure in-house communications operations for maximum impact. Michael previously worked in Washington, DC, overseeing communications for National Public Radio (NPR). He began his career in the political arena, managing grassroots legislative affairs for NPR, handling policy matters for a national trade association and serving with several political campaigns. Michael holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. in Politics and Public Policy from the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University.
