James is a Managing Director at Finsbury who joined in 2013 from The Independent and Evening Standard, where he was the retail and leisure correspondent for five years. He co-leads the consumer team in London and has significant experience of financial communications, M&A, crises, and corporate and leadership positioning. His existing and previous clients include Yoox Net-A-Porter (YNAP), Asda (Walmart), Home Retail Group, Marks & Spencer, Greystar, NewRiver REIT, Assura and Eurostar. His capital markets experience includes: Sainsbury’s acquisition of Home Retail Group; the merger between Yoox and Net-A-Porter, and subsequent Richemont takeover of YNAP; Lone Star Real Estate Fund IV’s purchase of Quintain; and Post Holdings’ acquisition of Weetabix. Before he joined The Independent in 2008, he was news editor at the trade paper Retail Week, where he spent nearly three years. He graduated from Warwick University.
