John joined Finsbury’s Political and Regulatory Practice in 2006. Prior to this he worked for six years as senior aide to a Labour MP in the House of Commons. John specialises in advising clients operating in the financial services, energy, mining and leisure sectors, and on the public affairs aspects of competition policy where he has advised on a range of high-profile M&A transactions, including the £8.7bn merger between Thomson Corporation and Reuters Group and the £80bn approach for Rio Tinto by BHP Billiton. Along with his background in UK and EU politics, John has also worked on election campaigns for the Democrats in the US at both Presidential and Congressional level. In 2009, he received the Consultant of the Year award, chosen from across Finsbury’s global public affairs network, FIPRA. Educated at the University of Leeds, John holds a degree in History and a Masters degree in International Political Economy.
